LoRa (Long Range) is the smart, long-range, wireless transmission technology that is enabling the future of IoT (Internet of Things). As my contribution towards the evolving Internet of Things I run an IoT gateway in East Edinburgh. Based on a Raspberry Pi-4 computer with a LoRa pHAT from Pi Supply, it provides eight channels of communication on 868MHz with fixed and mobile nodes over a wide area of the town. Data is collected and forwarded to The Things Network’s server in Europe for distribution to end points via the Internet.
